Senior Network Architect



he selected candidate will support customer projects in the deployment of voice, data, and/or video infrastructure technology.

Requirements Gathering & Scoping

  • Lead and participate in requirements gathering and analysis.
  • Define and document scope of work for multiple projects and activities with varying complexity, timelines, and importance within the team.
  • Perform scoping and translate customer business requirements into technical specification and scoping documents.
  • Translate requirements into detailed design documents (DDD) and technical specifications document (TSD).
  • Review architecture documents to ensure solutions proposed by various internal teams, 3rd party vendors, and/or customers meet Customers’ technical and functional business requirements and adhere to all industry and customer specified standards.
  • Produce feasibility and effort estimates


  • Plan solution delivery steps, deployment phases, and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Coordinate with internal and external planning, operations and support teams for project implementation.
  • Participate in implementation, verification and acceptance testing of new hardware, software, services, or functionality.
  • Configuration of different network elements, Switches, Routers, Firewalls and IPS’s.
  • Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation (Architecture,Operations Procedures, and Specifications).
  • Develop and deploy automated operational tools to facilitate the management of the system (self scaling, self healing)
  • Provide regular reporting of project status, accomplishments, forthcoming milestones, and challenges to Management and Executive team members.

  • Responsible for participation in Change Management procedures including participating in weekly meetings.
  • Provide technical consultation to both internal and external teams.
  • Establish and build partnerships with other teams and vendors involved in the projects.
  • Work with vendors and stakeholders to understand product and solution roadmaps.
  • Develop and documents network reference and training material.


  • Manage the network requirements to meet the business demands of a telecommunications and video head end.
  • Maintain central database of both public and private IP address space used in Customer network infrastructure.
  • Provide network infrastructure capacity and performance reporting and planning.
  • Work collaboratively with other internal teams in building out the ongoing network plans and provide recommendations to and tracking of support capacity demands and resiliency.
  • Collaborate with Project management, stakeholders on multi-disciplinary teams to act as a key contributor in the planning, implementation and operational support of all mission critical LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  • Maintain standards for a datacenter infrastructure and operational effectiveness and ensure availability of networks in Production, Development, Lab and Disaster Recovery environments across multiple datacentres.
  • Responsible for leading third line support for incident and request management.
  • Operational support for LAN/WAN related network incidents (investigation of element and link failures, network routing, performance, security).
  • Track appropriate information and complete ticket, outage and post mortem records as necessary.
  • Completes periodic routine maintenance and daily tasks, tracking results and resolving problems as appropriate.
  • Monitors network indicators and initiates further testing and corrective action as necessary.
  • Provide on-call coverage as required.

Learning & Innovation

  • Research new technology to meet applicable availability and security requirements to fulfill customer solution requirements.
  • Research the use of best technologies and best practices to help guide and build consistency to introduce new technologies, features and systems.
  • Uses experience and knowledge to help propose, document, and drive technical and process improvements
  • Contribute and lead improvement initiatives typically associated with delivery times and work efficiency
  • Analyze large amounts of data, consolidate and translate that data into business insights
  • Mentor and train other colleagues and peers on new systems, technology and networking


Telecom/Broadcast Experience

  • Prefer candidates with proven track-record of success
  • At least 5-7 years experience in network operations and project support in large complex data center infrastructure with technology from multi-vendors
  • Working knowledge of the design of telecom carrier network services (including voice and data services), and Ethernet and Copper based access preferred
  • Work experience in a telecommunication or broadcast/cable service provider, both business and technical working backgrounds would be an asset
  • Cellular networks knowledge: HSPA, LTE, IMS
  • Working knowledge and working experience with Broadcast delivery and transport mechanisms, transport protocols, video encoding/encryption/compression/multiplexing techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Video over IP, SD and HD video processing, live and file based transcoding, and mass storage & data delivery systems
  • Working knowledge of MPEG 2 + MPEG 4 transport streams and Analyzers
  • Supported an infrastructure covering more than 10+ locations
  • Support remote access solutions for 1000+ users
  • Support infrastructure with more than 200+ servers
  • Support infrastructure with more than 100+ network and firewall devices
  • Delivered large project implementations involving multiple teams
  • Worked in technical departments to produce detailed documentation
  • Proven experience as a technical team lead supporting complex network and security projects.

Networking (Server, Switching, Security) Experience incl. Virtualization

  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with servers (physical and virtual design) as well as different operating systems (Windows and Linux)
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in enterprise data center infrastructure
  • Advanced knowledge and sufficient experience in network and system clustering in a multi-tiered, high transaction volume environment
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in system clustering in a multi-tiered, high transaction volume environment is considered an asset
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in technical architecture design (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, protocol flows) and hands-on experience with middleware server components (e.g., HP, Oracle)
  • Experience in the implementation and support of high availability environments
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies
  • Knowledge of WAN technologies : MPLS ,DWDM
  • Advanced knowledge of routing protocols ( BGP, EIGRP, OSPF )
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco technologies ( CCIE would be an asset )
  • Advanced knowledge of IP networking
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP protocol suite and layer 2/3 architectures.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in complex network infrastructure (i.e. routers, switches, gateway, firewalls, IDS/IPS, SSL, UTM, load balancing, ACLs, and VPN technologies)
  • Knowledge and experience with multiple key manufacture technologies: Cisco, F5, CheckPoint, Fortinet, Solarwinds, Juniper, Foundry, Sidewinder, Nokia, Hypercom, RSA, Ciena
  • Excellent network troubleshooting skills, efficient problem-solving methodology, knowledgeable in packet analysis and troubleshooting/debug commands on operating systems Cisco(IOS), Juniper(JUNOS), Fortinet, CheckPoint, Unix/Linux/HpUx, Windows, and Linux (Redhat, Ubuntu, CentOS)
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework

Testing & Automation

  • Experience in working with various network debug and monitoring tools
  • Knowledge of automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Understanding of Agile / DevOps / Lean / Six Sigma. Experience working with these methodologies preferred.
  • Able to write code to automate processes and orchestrate deployments (Python, Ruby, Java, Shell or Perl etc) and manage code (GIT, SVN etc)

Scoping & Technical Writing

  • Ability to translate legacy designs to next generation solutions and map them into technical requirements
  • Advanced technical writing skills with emphasis on translating “technical speak” into business language is an asset
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in Microsoft VISIO

Education & Certifications

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Engineering,Telecommunications
  • Various Cisco certifications from CCNA to CCIE
  • Network and Security certifications (CCNP, JNCIS, CCSE)
  • Checkpoint certificates
  • Any other technical certificates will be an asset
